Groundbreaking for Tool-Flo Manufacturing Facility in Pearland’s Lower Kirby District
Supplier of precision carbide metal working tools breaks ground on 75,000 square-foot headquarters, training and manufacturing facility in Pearland

PEARLAND, Texas — Tool-Flo Manufacturing (Tool-Flo), along with leadership from the City of Pearland and the Pearland Economic Development Corporation (PEDC), kicked off construction on May 9th with a groundbreaking ceremony for Tool-Flo’s new headquarters, training and manufacturing facility in Pearland’s Lower Kirby District.

Tool-Flo Manufacturing, which is owned by IMC Group, is a manufacturer of tools and products for the oil/gas, automotive, aerospace and medical industries.  The IMC Group, a Berkshire Hathaway owned company, is one of the world’s largest companies for metalworking products and metal removal technology, supplying a dynamic comprehensive line of precision carbide metalworking tools.  IMC also provides engineering and manufacturing solutions to major industries throughout the world.

“We spent a lot of time searching for property and when we drove into Pearland on Kirby Drive, it immediately felt like we were at home,” said Tool-Flo President, Dennis Flolo. “We’ve done really well and have been very pleased, but I can say without a doubt that we’ll be happier here.”

The PEDC and city officials began working with IMC Group in early 2015 on the project.  The 75,000 square-foot facility, which is being designed by Kajima Building and Design Group, will include office, manufacturing and training space.  The facility will be located on a 15-acre site on the southeast corner of Kirby Drive and N. Spectrum Boulevard and will be home to approximately 150 employees, including management, engineering, sales, operations and administrative personnel.

“The City of Pearland is honored to partner with Tool-Flo on its new facility and to add its name to the growing list of employers who have chosen to call Pearland’s Lower Kirby District home, said Pearland Mayor Tom  Reid. “It has been a long-standing goal of the City to develop this area as Pearland’s most intensive mixed-use district and IMC/Tool-Flo’s selection of Pearland is a testament to city’s efforts to create a community with both a business-friendly environment and an outstanding quality of life.”

The Lower Kirby District consists of 1,200 acres located on the western border of Pearland facing South Beltway 8.  It is well positioned to capture a significant portion of office, retail, commercial and industrial projects as the Houston market continues to grow and expand. Existing developments within the Lower Kirby District include Lonza’s biotech facility for viral and immunotherapy development and manufacturing, Merit Medical’s R&D and manufacturing facility, Dover Energy’s regional manufacturing and operations center, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor Corp.’s office and manufacturing facility, Cardiovascular Systems, Inc.’s medical device manufacturing facility, Pearland Surgery Center and Bass Pro Shop.
