The city is in the process of completing negotiations with the University of Houston-Clear Lake to construct a satellite campus in Pearland. The campus will be constructed on 100 acres at the intersection of Pearland Parkway and McHard Road. Current plans consist of three buildings with 100,000 square feet of classroom space and a community auditorium or arts center. Construction bids for the first building – an $11 million, 35,000-square-foot facility – will be issued in fall 2007. This initial building is slated for completion by spring or summer 2009. The city has entered into a memorandum of understanding agreement with UH to lease the unused space in the building until the university can fill it. UH will then lease it back from the city.
