Each year, PEDC produces an annual report to highlight the accomplishments, goals and various projects that were completed in the previous year. Below, please enjoy a letter from our Board Chairman from the 2010 annual report. For the complete 2010 report and past issues, please view the downloads box on the right. Greetings Friends and Colleagues, In 2010, the Pearland Economic Development Corporation took a new approach to almost everything we do. From state-of-the-art facilities to staff and leadership changes to a revised focus on return on investment for taxpayer dollars, it was a year of fresh approaches for our organization. A new board of directors took office and closely worked with our new executive director, Matt Buchanan, to guide the PEDC to another year of successful accomplishments. We celebrated the grand opening of many new area facilities, including the University of Houston-Clear Lake Pearland Campus (and home of the new PEDC offices), the city’s new Recreation Center and Natatorium, and the Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. manufacturing facility. In addition, many more companies now call Pearland home and bring more employment opportunities for our local citizens. During 2010, the PEDC also developed an innovative marketing strategy to help us align our strategic goals with effective outreach tactics. As part of this new plan, we launched an updated branding campaign and will soon be unveiling a new, more user-centric web site. Most importantly, we shifted our focus in 2010 and made it a priority to demonstrate to Pearland residents how the PEDC has been, and continues to be, a wise steward of their tax dollars. This year, we allocated funds to put a new face on the historic part of our city. This included projects such as the Old Townsite Initiative, which helped erect a new monument for the historic district, as well as grants to help businesses within the district make façade enhancements. As the Texas economy continues to shine, we expect to see Pearland’s future beam even brighter. Here’s to saluting 2010 and getting started on a prosperous new year. Sincerely, Charles D. Gooden, Jr. PEDC Board Chairman
